Youth Education

Growing in Faith from Generation to Generation

Youth education at Holy Trinity Lutz is a vital part of the Church’s calling to pass on the faith once delivered to the saints. Through instruction, conversation, worship, and life together in the congregation, children and youth are formed in the Word of God and grounded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our goal is not simply to convey information, but to nurture faith, so that young people grow in confidence in Christ, and learn to live as His disciples within the life of the Church.

Sunday School

Sunday School at Holy Trinity Lutz is offered on Sunday mornings during the school year, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Sunday School is available for children from preschool through 12th grade, with the exception of those currently enrolled in Youth Confirmation. Classes are formed based on the number and ages of children present, allowing instruction to be age-appropriate and responsive to the needs of the learners.

Through Scripture, prayer, and discussion, Sunday School seeks to:

  • teach the foundational stories and teachings of the Bible,
  • help children understand God’s saving work in Christ, and
  • encourage a growing life of faith within the Christian community.

Youth Confirmation (Catechesis)

Youth Confirmation is taught on Sunday mornings during the school year, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Confirmation is a focused time of catechesis, instruction in the Christian faith, rooted in Scripture and the Small Catechism, taught with a practical aim and careful attention to how the Christian faith is lived out in today’s culture.

Confirmation is typically a two-year process, though the length may be extended depending on the age and readiness of the students, especially for those who begin earlier. Instruction is flexible and responsive to the student population, most commonly serving youth between 5th and 8th grade.

Just as with adults, Youth Confirmation is a prerequisite for full membership in the life of the congregation, including reception of Holy Communion. Confirmands receive the Lord’s Supper for the first time following their confirmation, having been instructed in what the Church believes, teaches, and confesses.

This instruction is not meant to be a burden, but a gift, ensuring that young people:

  • are grounded in the Word of God,
  • understand and agree with the faith they confess, and
  • receive Christ’s gifts with understanding, reverence, and confidence.

Confirmation and Lifelong Learning

Confirmation is not the end of Christian learning, but the beginning of mature participation in the life of the Church. In this sense, Confirmation serves as a kind of license for lifelong learning—a foundation upon which continued growth in faith, study, and discipleship is built.

Youth are encouraged to continue learning through worship, Bible study, service, and ongoing education alongside the whole congregation.

Learning Within the Life of the Church

Youth education at Holy Trinity Lutz is not separate from congregational life. Children and youth are encouraged to worship regularly, ask questions, serve alongside others, and grow as members of Christ’s Church with people of all ages.

Parents and caregivers are recognized as essential partners in this work, and the Church seeks to support them in their God-given vocation of raising children in the faith.

A Lifelong Journey of Faith

From Sunday School, to Confirmation, to ongoing learning as adults, Holy Trinity Lutz seeks to walk with young people throughout their lives, trusting that God, who has begun a good work in them, will bring it to completion in Christ Jesus.

If you have questions about Sunday School, Youth Confirmation, or how your child can become involved, we invite you to speak with the pastor or contact the church office.
