Adult Education

Growing in Faith for Daily Life

Adult Christian education at Holy Trinity Lutz takes place in a variety of settings and groups, all with a shared purpose: to deepen faith so that it may be lived out faithfully in daily life.

We believe learning in the Church is never an end in itself. Adult education is not meant to be an ivory tower exercise, but a practical engagement with God’s Word, one that strengthens confidence in Christ, clarifies Christian vocation, and brings comfort to real people facing real challenges.

A Practical and Confessional Approach

The Lutheran Reformers were deeply rooted in the rich theological tradition of the Church, drawing from Holy Scripture and the writings of the Church Fathers. Yet their goal was always practical: to place the comfort of the Gospel into the hands and hearts of ordinary Christians, the hearer in the pew.

In that same spirit, adult education at Holy Trinity is shaped by the faith once delivered to the saints and always directed toward the lived Christian life. We seek understanding not for pride or speculation, but so that Christ’s promises may be trusted, confessed, and lived with confidence.

Learning Together in Community

Adult education at Holy Trinity Lutz is carried out in several ways, and we are always open to new opportunities to learn and grow together.

Women’s Bible Study

Our Women’s Bible Study meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. This group gathers around God’s Word for study, discussion, prayer, and mutual encouragement. All women are welcome to attend.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

A Sunday Morning Bible Study meets each week at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays in the sanctuary.

Topics are selected collaboratively by those present, working together with the pastor. Studies include:

  • exegetical studies of books of the Bible, and
  • topical studies addressing contemporary questions and concerns.

This class follows an adult-learning (andragogical) approach, recognizing that adults bring experience, questions, and insight to the table. While discussion-based and participatory, the study does not shy away from depth. Together, we explore Scripture and doctrine carefully, always asking how God’s Word speaks to life as it is actually lived.

Adult Confirmation (Catechesis)

Holy Trinity Lutz also offers Adult Confirmation, also known as catechesis, for those who desire full membership in the congregation.

This course is designed especially for those who have not previously been instructed in the Confessional Lutheran faith. Adult Confirmation provides the theological and biblical foundation needed to fully enter the life of the congregation, centered on Scripture, the Lutheran Confessions, and, above all, the comforting Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Adult Confirmation is offered as needed and may be completed:

  • asynchronously through recorded videos from a previous course, and
  • through one or more meetings with the pastor to discuss questions, concerns, and pastoral care.

Adult Confirmation is a prerequisite for membership at Holy Trinity Lutz. It is not intended to be a burden, but a gift, ensuring that prospective members are:

  • instructed in the faith,
  • in agreement with what we believe, teach, and confess, and
  • confident in the Gospel promise of forgiveness, life, and salvation in Christ.

Those who complete Adult Confirmation are welcomed into membership with clarity, joy, and a shared confession of faith.

Always Learning, Always Growing

Because the Christian life is one of ongoing formation, Holy Trinity Lutz continually seeks additional opportunities for adult learning and discipleship. Whether through Bible study, discussion groups, or special offerings, our goal remains the same: to grow in faith, grounded in Christ, and strengthened for lives of service and witness.

If you are interested in joining a study or exploring new opportunities for adult education, we invite you to speak with the pastor or contact the church office.
